The price ladder

What each step up actually buys you

These bands are read off the live window rather than a rate card, so they shift with the season. The useful thing is not the exact figure but how little separates the bottom from the top.

Per day Band What you get
EUR 16 to 21 The bottom of the window Small three and five door hatchbacks, mostly manual, air conditioning, the plainest thing on the lot. Perfectly adequate for the coast road.
EUR 21 to 27 Where the automatics start The same class of car but the gearbox choice opens up, and more of these come with no deposit held.
EUR 27 to 32 Compact, five doors Noticeably more boot space, which is the difference between two suitcases fitting and not fitting.
EUR 32 to 36 The top of the window Estates and the larger family shapes, including the seven seaters. This is as expensive as it gets here.

Four levers

What moves the number, in order of size

When you travel

The single biggest lever on this coast. The season is charter driven, so July and August are the peak and everything either side is cheaper for the same car.

How long you keep it

The daily rate falls as the rental lengthens. A week is usually priced better per day than three days, sometimes by a wide margin.

Which gearbox

Manual is cheaper, but here the gap is small because 55 of the 100 cars in the window are automatic. Scarcity is what makes automatics expensive elsewhere, and there is not much of it here.

What you add at the desk

Extra insurance and a second driver are where a cheap booking stops being cheap. Decide before you arrive, not while someone is waiting for your card.

Straight answers

On paying less without regretting it

Because the fleet is built for charter passengers rather than business travel. Suppliers stock small and mid size cars in volume and compete on a narrow range, so the whole live window sits between roughly EUR 16 and EUR 36 a day. There is no premium tail here to average the price upwards.

Not usually, on this coast. The roads are ordinary and the distances are short, so a small hatchback does everything a bigger car does. The one honest reason to move up a band is luggage: four people with four suitcases will not fit in the cheapest cars.

It makes it more available, which is not the same thing. Booking ahead rarely discounts a specific car, but it keeps the cheap end of the list open to you. Leave it to the week before in August and the bottom two bands will simply be gone.

Fuel, and anything you agree to at the desk. The rate shown covers the car for your dates. Read what the supplier includes for insurance before you decide whether to buy more, because that decision is worth more than the difference between two cheap cars.

The cheap end, for your dates

The list above is filtered to the economy cars and priced for the whole rental rather than a headline day rate. Change the dates and the bottom of the range moves with the season.
